To begin out, this is one of my well-liked books. So I of course started out with an additude to inaugurate with, muttering that the book was always better. In this case, I was so corrupt. The characters portrayed in this film are the same ones I met in 5th grade when I first read “Exiguous Women”. The actors shine in their roles and truly embody everyone one of the literary creations they represents.

Playing the March matriarch, Susan Sarandon is stout! She is able to absorb the feel of the period while bringing to Marmee an empowering bout of women’s rights thoughts. Sarandon gives off warmth and knowledge wiht the apparent ease of someone completely familiar with the material.

Wynona Ryder is another standout here. She is the raging bundle of emotion that we have all arrive to know as Jo March. Playing down her usually novel features, Ryder plays the portion with spunk and earnestness.

My approved here is Christian Bale as the oft establish uopn Theodore “Laurie” Lawrence. Quite a jump from his “Newsies” days, Bale is the best Laurie I have seen on mask to date. He has the mannerisms and lines down to perfection, while serene maintaining the spontanaity that really is a vast portion of Laurie’s character. He also handles the age jump incredibly well.

Not until my most unique viewing of the movie did I realize Gabriel Byrne was Professor Bhaer. The native irishman does a huge job of bringing Frerdrick to life, true down to his physical bumbling and poetic heart.

In my concept, this movie was a complete triumph and a complete success from unique to film. All actors are stunning in their roles, most exceptional, and it is such a joy to witness an passe well-liked and all-time classic brought to life which such enthusiasm and talent. This is a must-see for any fan of the novel~although it will leave you yearning for “Limited Men” and Jo’s Boys” featuring this cast-which has yet to be done!!

This version of Dinky Women is a classic in its maintain good. Armstrong did an astonishing job here capturing the period and coaxing pretty performances from her cast. Ryder, Dunst, Alvarado, Mathis, Sarandon, Byrne, Bale and a heartbreaking Danes are all in top do. Visually, the movie is objective fine and the soundtrack is mesmerizing. A must spy.

Part 2 of Nip/Tuck season Five is only sightly better (less chaotic, and not as lifeless) than Section 1 (which i would rate 2/5) . It is quite dark how far this exhibit has fallen. If you are a hardcore fan of the point to, purchase this situation up, if not, leave it alone.

I’m here not to complain about notice, but the quality of the note. Season five was a mixed bag of inane record lines, many stretches of fable and place were it fair came of as “No they didn’t do that…how slow!!” This season suffered plan more than a lot of other crazy/zany/impossible sort of Nip Tuck-esque storylines. Season 5 of Nip Tuck wasn’t that tremendous. Too many topics were a come….a immense time advance that made the prove unwatchable at times. Stick to seasons 1-3 and perhaps some of #4 if you want classic, unusual, Nip Tuck.

Compare Prices on The American President

The simple but ironic rule of thumb for “The American President” PBS series is that the less you know about a particular President the more you will be impressed by a particular segment, and visa versa. Of course, this certainly makes sense. Reducing the Presidency of Washington, Lincoln or FDR into a 10-12 cramped block is extremely reductionalistic. But for the lesser lights of history these segments can be quite revealing. I certainly had more respect for John Quincy Adams than I had before. This is not to say you will not learn anything modern from the other segments; I was surprised to learn that Truman’s poll numbers when he left office were lower than Nixon’s before his resignation.

The format is that each tape, with one exception, presents five American Presidents lumped together thematically: (1) “Family Ties” looks at those men born to the office: John Quincy Adams, Benjamin Harrison, Franklin Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy; (2) “Happenstance” looks at most of Vice-Presidents who became “accidental” Presidents: John Tyler, Millard Fillmore, Andrew Johnson, Chester A. Arthur and Harry Truman; (3) “An Independent Cast of Mind” covers John Adams, Zachary Taylor, Rutherford B. Hayes and Jimmy Carter; (4) “The Professional Politician” covers Martin Van Buren, James Buchanan, Abraham Lincoln and Lyndon Johnson; (5) “The American Draw” features Thomas Jefferson, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover and Ronald Reagan; (6) “The World Stage” looks at internationalist presidents: James Monroe, William McKinley, Woodrow Wilson and George Bush; (7) “The Fearless Posture” looks at the war hero Presidents: George Washington, William Henry Harrison, Ulysses Grant and Dwight Eisenhower; (8) “Compromise Choices” inquire of the administrations of Franklin Pierce, James Garfield, Warren Harding and Gerald Ford; (9) “Expanding Power” covers the imperial presidencies of Andrew Jackson, Grover Cleveland, Theodore Roosevelt and Richard Nixon; and (10) “The Balance of “Power” finishes off the series with James Madison, James K. Polk, William Taft and Bill Clinton.

It is impossible not to peep at this plot and not seek some distinct liabilities. LBJ does not collect dismissed as an “accidental” President while Jefferson ends up representing the “American Blueprint” more than an “Independent Cast of Mind.” Putting Jefferson, Coolidge, Hoover, and Reagan in the same category seems rather forced. But this is unbiased quibbling because once you settle not to travel chronologically through the Presidents it is always going to be launch to debate. This format at least sets up some comparisons and contrasts that would engender classroom debate (or you can feel free to quibble in the sanctuary of your gain mind) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream The American President! Click Here

Each program is narrated by Hugh Sidney, who has been the White House correspondent for Time magazine for as long as I can remember. Harvard scholar Richard Neustadt offers up academic preachments on each President, having interviewed most of the living Presidents for their acquire insights. Whenever possible the exact voices of the Presidents are stale, while for the others John Glenn, Walter Cronkite, Morley Safer, Norman Schwarzkopf, and a host of others provide the voices (Bob Dole is Hoover and Colin Powell is Taft) .

Obviously this series is a godsend for history teachers who can grasp and decide particular Presidents to display their class. For example, showing a class the segment on Hoover before getting to the Depression, FDR and the Novel Deal, would be quite friendly. I would also deem the segments on Buchanan, Cleveland and Ford would be particularly useful. I feel less gather recommending the segments on the more distinguished Presidents since I have to assume most textbooks will mask dazzling great the same point. “The American President” series helps best when it fills in the gaps of your standard American history textbook. But if that is what you are teaching, then you should certainly invest some time going through this series and seeing what could work for you and your cherubs.

Clearly the segregational arrive is difficult to follow and at times puzzling. However, as a teacher of American History for 10th graders I have found the 12-15 exiguous biographies on each of the presidents very vital. They are gigantic supplemental sources. I could never reveal a 50 microscopic or 90 tiny video on a president, but with this series I can address 2 or 3 within the 85 itsy-bitsy block that the course is taught. My students seemed engaged and because of the short snipet of time, the basic underpinnings of the presidents and their accomplishments stays graceful well focused. Without this my students would have been denied some pleasant background on presidents such as McKinley, Taft, Hoover and Coolidge. Reorganization into a timeline of presidents would have made it a trim source.

The complete series box residence is a *big* box, not something that will fit easily on a shelf. The box is quite sturdy, with each season’s discs packaged in their enjoy sleeve (four in all) . These sleeves are cardboard with flip up covers; inside, the discs are nested in a folded cardboard separator.

Some have claimed that this spot would include the movie “Caprica”, but it is *not* included. The 25 DVDs in this location are the same DVDs available in the 6 season sets (1, 2.0, 2.5, 3, 4.0, 4.5) .

The series was produced in HD, which means a wide-screen presentation; however, it was deliberately shot with a grainy witness to give it a ‘gritty’ film quality.

Why glean this collection instead of the six season sets? You net a dapper Cylon Centurion figurine (and it’s gracious sized!), but no booklet, a tremendous box, and base internal packaging. I bought the series this draw mainly because it was (slightly) cheaper than purchasing the six season sets individually; nevertheless, I’m experiencing a bit of buyer’s remorse.

What was Universal thinking…

The blu-rays may be alright, but I’ve never seen something that costs so powerful money packaged so badly. You win this ample ungainly box that won’t fit on most shelves, but I’m thinking “hey, I’ll impartial retract the individual season boxes out and store the tremendous outsized box. But then you peruse that you procure the dvd’s in these cheap cardboard boxes that are in loose sleeves… and there’s no booklet of any kind with it. I could live without the booklet except THERE’S NO EPISODE LIST. ANYWHERE! What if you want to sight a particular episode. You’ll have to remember or guess what disc it’s on… for all four seasons. And there’s no list of extras, either. Are there extras? Where are they? Does anyone know?

I believe this is the most negative review I’ve ever written, but I feel like I’ve been suckered. This plot costs a lot of money, and to salvage so cheap on the packaging is impartial condescending. I’ve have to mediate long and hard about ever buying another box position from Universal.

Tremendous documentary. Interviews with Annik Honore (finally!), Tony Wilson (and not someone playing Tony Wilson), and all of the surviving band members (Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, & Peter Hook) plus Buzzcock Pete Shelley and Buzzcocks manager Richard Boon, plus music journalist and Joy Division biographer Paul Morley, plus album designer Peter Saville … this is really a goldmine for Joy Division fans. Truly, an overwhelming amount of detailed information here. Even if you judge you’ve heard it all, stories become more than objective talk when told by someone who was actually there. Plus loads of vintage footage of the band performing in various venues. More than I knew existed.

Interestingly enough the documentary starts off with a quote, that I found to be quite compelling:

To be original is to accumulate ourselves in an environment that promises us adventure, power, joy, growth, transformation of ourselves and the world–and at the same time that threatens to demolish everything we have, everything we know, everything we are.

–Marshall Berman, All That is Solid Melts Into Air

This will give you some indication that this is not your typical rock documentary that recounts the rise and topple of yet another generic rock band. This is a rock documentary that is completley different from any that you have seen before, and that is fitting given the subject matter. Manchester, we learn, was in many ways the first recent city. And Joy Division, in many ways was creatively inspired (if that is the suitable word) by the fact that they lived in a purely utilitarian city designed to maximize economic efficiency. (Bernard Sumner mentions, almost in passing, that he never saw a tree until he was nine.) If Control was primarily a legend about a marriage, then Grant Gee’s “Joy Division” is about a station and a time: Manchester in the behind seventies. This sounds ambitious, and it is, but Gee succeeds brilliantly in giving us an opinion of where those mysterious Joy Division sounds & visions were coming from. This is a documentary that attempts to contextualize a band that dared to be culturally vital, and does so in a culturally famous blueprint.

Manchester is both cerebrally & viscerally fresh and this is a documentary that strikes to the core of how Joy Division processed the environment that became so distinguished a piece of their music. One might almost say that this is a documentary with two subjects: Joy Division & Manchester. Grant Gee certainly has a point of understanding here, and many of those interviewed here seem to portion the notion that there is a “psychogeographic” (at least two of them exercise that very word) link between the time and the position it was made & the Joy Division sound. This is maybe not a surprising observation to design for it seems sure that we are all, to a determined extent, products of our environment, but rarely has this oft concept axiom been so well expressed, and few, I suspect, have explored it more thoroughly than Ian Curtis.

This documentary is, in short, everything that Control was not.

It is tubby of grand insight.

The most insightful and revealing and engrossing interview is the Annik Honore interview. She is a very heavenly, very sensitive creature, and also one with a very refined sensibility. When she discusses Ian’s stage presence and how he transformed into another kind of person onstage it is haunting and one feels that she among all that knew him, knew & understood him best.

The surviving Joy Division, now Modern Order, band members are surprisingly upbeat. Each of them breaks into laughter very easily when discussing the past. Apparently, the band shied away from playing Joy Division songs until recently.

One particularly memorable moment is when Sumner plays a tape of Ian Curtis answering questions under hypnosis. Sumner asks him to remember a time before he was born and then asks him what he is doing. Ian responds that he is reading books about the law. This is a hauntingly Kafkaesque moment.

Even though producer Martin Hannett (who produced both the Buzzcocks & Joy Division) died many years ago (1991, I beget), he is note here in spirit as each of the band members remembers Hannett’s highly unorthodox studio practices; his “zen” plot of production as one band member puts it. Hook has been quoted as saying that Hannett is responsible for the Joy Division sound, but he seems to engage that here as he insists that although Hannett made many adjustments to the sound, he didn’t write the songs. I assume an entire documentary could well be dedicated to Hannett. Music journalist Paul Morley, in his book on Joy Division, states that Hannett is the kind of guy that could have heard the sound of the moon passing round the earth.

Manager, and co-founder of Factory records and the Hacienda, Win Gretton (who died in 1999) is also remembered. On several occasions Grant Gee silently pans the many pages of Gretton’s notebooks pudgy of phone numbers, carefully calculated expenditures, events and plans, some of which came to pass, and some of which did not.

Also memorable: An always enchanting Tony Wilson discussing a night that he was to give a lecture, and after listening to the previous speaker (Richard Florida) go on about creative communities, deciding to talk about death.

I recently saw Control & was disappointed that so remarkable of the film was spent on the marriage (which makes sense as it was based on Deborah Curtis’ biography) . But this documentary tells the narrative that Control did not pronounce. In fact Deborah does not even appear in this documentary. (Deborah is represented only by a few written quotes.) While Control was Ian & Deborah’s legend (as Deborah saw it), this documentary is about the whole group & Manchester & music.

Extras: DVD includes the entirety of the Joy Division performance of “Transmission” on the SO IT GOES display. Plus loads of interview extras that steal as grand time to examine as the precise film, including discussions of everything from WWII (Morris calls it “the first broad crawl”) to synthesizers (Sumners built the first one the band broken-down) .

If Control was the populist Joy Division project, this documentary is the thinking mans Joy Division project.

Highly recommended for take because there is so distinguished here that bears repeated viewing.

Grant Gee is best known for his highly-recommended documentary about Radiohead, Radiohead - Meeting People Is Easy (1999) . His modern 93-minute documentary will not only appeal to fans of the Manchester band, Joy Division, but to anyone who experienced Anton Corbijn’s 2007 film, Control, which was based on Deborah Curtis’s book, Touching from a Distance: Ian Curtis & Joy Division. Drawing from interviews from many of the key players in the Joy Division anecdote (including the three other bandmates, guitarist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris, who went on to get Modern Order; roadie Terry Mason, and Tony Wilson, the founder of Factory Records), Gee’s oral history of the band chronicles the short, gloomy life of Ian Curtis (1956-1980), from his pursuit of art and literature at age 17 (while obsessed with David Bowie), to attending a fateful Sex Pistols’ gig in 1976 (where he met the other members of Joy Division), to his contributions as lead singer and darkly prophetic lyricist for that intelligent post-punk band (which he joined the same year), to his May 18, 1980 suicide at age 23. The film includes haunting, footage of the band in concert, including a pudgy performance of “Transmission.” Although this documentary will accumulate its audience mostly in fans of Joy Division, like Anton Corbijn’s novel biopic, Gee’s documentary argues that the Joy Division epic deserves a great wider audience for its mesmerizing portrait of a post-punk artist as a young man. Gee’s film reveals the loyal genius of Joy Division as more than impartial a British pub band, but as a creative force working against chaos, entropy, and an industrial city in decline to the band’s unexpected slay with the death of Curtis. I have given this film four stars only when measured against Gee’s Radiohead documentary.

To just the technical info above, this DVD (both the special edition and movie-only edition) DOES HAVE an English monophonic soundtrack that was originally dilapidated in the film. Also included is a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, but one wonders if a dialog-heavy film like this should really need a surround soundtrack. Dialogs in both the mono and the 5.1 tracks sound perfectly determined and understable. The surround sound only comes into spend during the occasional music and gunfight sequences. I do applaud the inclusion of the recent mono track, which quite a few modern DVDs of older movies do not provide in the hope of enticing fresh DVD owners with 5.1 audio.

The video transfer looks ample — images are engaging, levels of shaded witness realistic (you can clearly behold and feel the velvety texture of a dark robe Monroe wears), signs of wear and run are virtually non-existent. The relate aspect ratio is 1.66:1, which is not the 1:85:1 ratio feeble for the fresh US theatrical release and for all previous US letterboxed laserdisc releases. The 1.66:1 ratio adds a itsy-bitsy report to the top, but doesn’t really affect the composition. The video is also non-anamorphic, so the resolution is not as high on a widescreen TV as it would be with an anamorphic DVD. There is also no English optional subtitles, but there are yellow optional French and Spanish ones.

I would have gladly paid a higher effect if they had included better supplementary material on the Special Edition DVD, such as the audio commentary and home movies that were place on the Criterion laserdisc made in the early 90s. The extras on the Special Edition DVD include a inspiring but superficial 30-minute unusual interview with Tony Curtis reminiscing about the film, a rather tiring, 12-minute interview with the actresses who played the girl band members, a segment called “Virtual Hall of Memories” that is essentially a collected gallery, and trailers of 7 Wilder films including SOME LIKE IT HOT; all the trailers are in terrible video condition. The most fascinating extra is a reproduction of a pressbook for the film, but the pictures are blurry and the smaller text is illegible. I am disappointed that we never pick up to hear from Jack Lemmon or Billy Wilder, both mild alive, on this DVD. These extras are not impressive, so one may think buying the movie-only edition for a cheaper imprint.

Billy Wilder’s most approved comedy finally receives the deluxe treatment it deserves. MGM previously released this classic comedy in a nonanamorphic widescreen version a couple of years aid. While that edition looked blooming decent this anamorphic transfer puts any previous editions (including my great favored laserdisc edition) to shame. Wilder’s comedy operates as a spoof of gangster films and a comedy about gender roles. Jerry (the behind Jack Lemmon) and Joe (Tony Curtis) are two musicians on the lam when they gape the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. With Spats Columobo (George Raft) and his men looking for the duo they go undercover as musicians base dressing and joining an all female band headed for a gig in Florida. Becoming a woman allows Joe/Josephine to spent time with Sugar (Marilyn Monroe) the latest woman that catches Joe’s like. Jerry/Daphne on the other hand finds himself romanced by a rich man (Joe E. Brown) who won’t grasp the hint as Jerry tries to blow off his advances.

And you idea the 50’s were tame. One of Wilder’s richest 50’s comedies “Some Like It Hot” continues to be very comical inverting our expectations constantly and playing with the roles that Jerry and Joe lift on with their unusual identities. Joe’s eyes start the most as before he was a glorious ruthless womanizer. Becoming a woman puts him in the crosshairs of every male insight and he’s on the receiving destroy of all the smirks, comments and passes that he would have stale with Sugar before his change. Wilder mixes social commentary so deftly with comedy (like Hitchcock’s work with suspense and social commentary) that at his best–and he’s at his best here–it reminds us how engrossing a movie can be without being heavy handed. It’s also filled with some advantageous in jokes (for example Colombo played by George Raft observes a thug flipping a coin and comments, “Where did you select up that cheap trick? ” Raft of course did the precise thing in one of his signature roles in “Scarface” from 1932) .

A mammoth movie looks even better in this exciting looking transfer. The gloomy and white imagery of the film looks handsome. Originally Marilyn Monroe lobbied to have the film shot in color which Billy Wilder felt wouldn’t work for this comedy (he persuaded her to agree to shoot in murky and white when he showed her beget up tests for Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis in color where their gain up as women made them watch slightly green) while the film certainly would have looked titanic in color the sumptuous cinematography by Charles Lang (”The Ravishing Seven”, “Wait Until Gloomy”) looks extremely valid in this extraordinary looking transfer. Detail is quite satisfactory and blacks are solid with a nice array of different textures evident in the transfer. Audio is presented in the unique mono and sounds radiant.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Some Like It Hot! Click Here

For those that are into such things the special features here are a ample improvement over the previous edition. We pick up a commentary track compiled from comments by the unhurried Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and I.A.L. Diamond’s son (working with the comedy writers Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel–honestly I could have view of better writers to pair with Diamond’s son) . While the insights aren’t exactly a revelation it is an luscious commentary track.

We also fetch two terrific documentaries on the making of the film. The first features a mixture of novel and older interviews from the cast and crew. The second documentary “The Legacy of `Some Like it Hot’” is packed with trivia about the making of the film, Wilder & Monroe’s relationship on the dwelling and the difficult time Wilder had making the film with his leading lady including footage shot in the 80’s of Wilder and Diamond.

Finally we acquire “Memories from the Sweet Sues” featurette with members of the women who played in the band, an interview with Tony Curtis entitled “Nostalgic Eye Relieve” where Curtis reveals that actor/voice artist Paul Frees did distinguished of his suppose as Josephine because he had inconvenience reaching the high say. We also obtain the imaginatively titled but unimpressive “Virtual Hall of Memories 3-D Tour” The recent pressbook appears on the DVD as well and we net reproductions of various lobby cards. Finally we accumulate previews and the novel theatrical trailer.

Far more impressive than the lackluster previous DVD releases “Some Like It Hot” looks solid in this re-release although the film could peer a bit more vibrant. The featurettes are, for the most fragment, very profitable and the compiled commentary track adds loads of trivia (some of which is duplicated in the featurettes) about the making of the film. I do wish that a film historian such as UCLA professor Howard Suber had been enthusiastic in some diagram to wait on provide context for the movie but that’s unprejudiced personal preference. A pleasing release that could have been tremendous with a wee bit more concern on the piece of Sony/MGM.

A few years benefit, Ricky Gervais created “The Office,” a Dilberty satire on office work. Now, he’s created “Extras,” a wickedly droll satire on showbiz and acting, both seasons of which are contained here. And the fact that prominent actors appear in it — as warped versions of themselves — is unprejudiced the icing on the comedy cake.

Andy Millman (Gervais) and Maggie Jacobs (Ashley Jenson) are film extras — Andy is embittered by his lack of success and his inept agent (Stephen Merchant, Gervais’ work partner), while well-meaning Maggie merely pursues a series of crew members on the films they work in.

The first episode features the two working in a biopic directed by a brusque Ben Stiller (”Would you halt going on about your f**king dreary wife? “), and Andy gets himself kicked off the dwelling. Their blunders continue with other stars: Kate Winslet in a nun costume, who teaches Maggie how to talk dirty to her modern boyfriend (”I’d appreciate it if you stuck your Willy Wonka in between my Oompa-Loompas!”) ; Samuel L. Jackson, and Patrick Stewart, who is writing a movie about psychkinesis and naked women.

And in the second season, Andy gets his Huge Demolish — BBC2 is producing his sitcom “When the Whistle Blows,” but they boring it down until it’s favorite but critically lambasted. Meanwhile, he and Maggie tangle with a bunch of fresh celebs — the arrogant woman-chasing Daniel Radcliffe and Orlando Bloom, self-promoting Chris Martin, a hostile David Bowie, and Andy even stars in a play of Ian McKellen’s about joyful care for (noteworthy to his discomfort) .

Finally, the Christmas special takes us forward — Andy has fame and fortune from his sitcom, and Maggie is tranquil struggling at the lowest rungs. When Andy blows up and destroys his believe fame, he is forced to confront the fact that he cannot be both an “artiste” and rich’n'famous…. and also who his just friends will always be.

It’s a bit depressing compared to the past two seasons, especially when Andy has turned into a expansive boring sitcom diva. But it is comic in an understated intention, and Gervais’ televised monologue is an absolute, heartbreaking gem.

Part of the genius of “Extras” is that it isn’t noteworthy like any other showbiz parodies — the lead characters are on the lowest rung of acting, and the stout egos are dependable stars making fun of themselves. Sometimes they play really snide versions of themselves, such as Winslet saying that she’s only making a Holocaust film so she can FINALLY nab an Oscar.

The other half of the humorous genius is Gervais’ direction, with most of the jokes based on socially awkward situations. It’s all about cringing and giggling at once, such as when Andy’s pals view him pantsless in Ian McKellen’s dressing room. Those hideously embarrassing situations — usually with some hilarious dialogue tantalizing the star guests (Bowie’s “exiguous rotund man/nobody’s laughing” song is a gutsplitter) are what it’s all about.

Gervais underplays a sort of befuddled, cynical extra, but you can really connect with his struggles, even when he gets his fill sitcom. No matter what, Andy can always be depended on to problem foot in mouth, and occasionally to attack Warwick Davis. And Jensen is clumsily charming as Maggie, who tries to be nice to everyone but says all the deplorable things at the gross time, when she’s not being pursued by Orlando Bloom or offending Samuel Jackson.

From inaugurate to execute, “Extras” is an uproariously amusing, barbed looks at the outlandish world of showbiz, with the self-parodying actors as the final perfect touch.

Hello, from HBO! We’ve picked up on the comments here about the EXTRAS gift box location and not being able to secure Ricky Gervais’ EXTRAS: THE EXTRA SPECIAL SERIES FINALE by itself and we want to apologize for not getting the word out about the finale quicker.

The series finale WILL be available as a stand-alone item as of February 26 (the official announcement went out earlier this week) .

A limited Animal House, some Van Wilder, a bound of American Pie, and a pinch of Gilmore Girls-esque drama, Greek is the kind of premise that could have easily gone cheesy and overdone. Fortunately, it doesn’t; whether it’s depictions of life in the Greek system are upright or exaggerated, it manages to procure a contented medium between alcohol-drenched party scenes and loyal character-driven drama.

It’s the characters, while mildly stereotypical, that really do the show; anyone who was awkward as a college freshman, whether they were in the Greek system or not, will identify with Rusty, the dorky physics major who longs to be in a fraternity; his older sister Casey may at first gaze play the perfect blonde sorority princess, but she has plenty of flaws and problems to work through. Her novel high-society boyfriend Evan, while definitely arrogant and a slight flaky, also seems to have a sensitive side; but it’s Casey’s ex, ringleader of the Animal House-esque Kappa Taus, aptly-nicknamed Cappie, who steals the display. A humorous, fast-talking, goofball with a heart of gold (which gets broken entirely too often), he’s the kind of character you can’t wait on but fancy (unless your Evan Chambers, anyway) . The supporting characters, too, are surprisingly well-developed (Dale, Rusty’s Bible-thumping, physics nerd roommate is hysterical, and Casey’s archenemy Rebecca is the girl everyone loves to loathe), and the explain even tackles such issues as gays in the Greek system. However, the main theme of the prove seems to be the importance of brotherhood, family and friendship. All in all, a gargantuan demonstrate, definitely worth a glance.

Greek is by far the best explain on television moral now. The ABC Family unusual comedy is probably more marvelous for people in their teens and 20’s, but my mom also loves the point to. It’s radiant, humorous and sometimes painfully honest. As somebody who experienced Greek life, this present really brings serve a lot of memories. The DVD is a bit skimpy on extras, but the episodes themselves are enough to sustain me buying Greek on DVD for future seasons.

“Buster Keaton Rides Again/The Railrodder” is here on DVD! After watching the VHS version for several years, the improvement in describe and sound quality of the DVD is striking! Colors are lustrous, record is crystal definite, and the music sounds 100 times better than on the video version. This compilation is a must-have for moral Keaton fans. “The Railrodder” is a short tranquil film (with music) which shows an aging Keaton doing what he did best. One of the last films he made (he died a year and a half after it was filmed) it is also an homage to the beauty of Southern Canada.

But the genuine gem of this collection is “Buster Keaton Rides Again,” a b&w documentary of the making of “The Railrodder.” It is a rare leer at Keaton being himself, something that was usually kept from the public view. We inspect how he worked, relaxed, and what made him smile. There is touching and endearing footage of him interacting with his wife Eleanor and a priceless scene of him singing and playing ukulele. Additionally, there is a short biography interwoven throughout, with some sparkling vintage photos and footage of Buster’s early days. Highest recommendations!

Really lovely double-bill, featuring some of Buster’s final appearances. The Railrodder comes up sumptuously in DVD colour, with many sound and vision details I have never noticed before. Almost better is the 55-min documentary about the making of the film: a astonishing, all-too brief examine of Buster and Eleanor at work and play; very candid, silly - it moved me to tears at times. I savor Buster so noteworthy, as an artist and as a human being. There’s a enjoyable moment when a bunch of Canadian children talk bid to camera, beside themselves with excitement at the prospect of visiting their hero in his private carriage. Unforgettable.
